Move more. Feel stronger. Live better

Experts in Pilates since 2001

Since we opened in 2001, EQ has been all about helping people dive into the amazing benefits of Pilates. With twenty five years behind us, we’re excited for you to be a part of this journey. We're proud to be the most experienced Pilates team in Sutton Coldfield and can’t wait to welcome you to our studio!

At EQ Pilates, we believe in the remarkable power of community. We strive to create an inviting and inclusive space where everyone, regardless of their experience level or age, can fully experience the transformative physical and mental benefits of Pilates.

Why our clients choose Pilates

Build strength from the inside out. Take control of how your body moves. Ease pain. Stand taller. Feel powerful.

Whether you're 25 or 75, recovering from surgery or simply wanting to feel stronger and more capable, Pilates works. Our clients tell us they feel 10 years younger—and finally understand the strength and control their body is capable of.

Who We Are

  • Small classes. Expert teachers. Real relationships. We teach the full Pilates system—Mat, Reformer, Tower/Cadillac, and Joe's Gym—using classical methodology that's been adapted so anyone can join in, not just dancers or athletes.

  • Integrity, experience, and community shape everything we do. We train our teachers rigorously, we keep our classes small, and we show up for our clients—whether that's celebrating birthdays or supporting recovery from surgery.

  • Twenty-five years ago, we opened EQ as a family business. Today, we're still family-run, still teaching properly, and still proud to be Sutton Coldfield's most experienced Pilates studio. Some of our clients are in their 80s and 90s—still moving, still strong, still here.

MAT

Mat is where it all began—Joseph Pilates' original sequence of exercises designed to build core strength, improve posture, and enhance your body awareness.

We offer a range of classes from Fundamentals to Advanced, ensuring you progress safely and at a pace that works for you. Some of our Mat classes follow the classical method, while others take a more contemporary approach—giving you options that suit your experience level and goals.

Our goal is to help you establish a solid foundation, so you can move on to more advanced and challenging movements while reaping the full benefits of Pilates. Mat work is the foundation of everything we do.

REFORMER

The Reformer is the machine most people picture when they think of Pilates—and for good reason. Using springs, ropes and a moving carriage, it delivers resistance and assistance exactly where your body needs it.

Reformer classes build strength in all the right places—targeting the smaller, stabilising muscles that are often weak or underused, and retraining your body to move more efficiently. The result? A stronger, more balanced body that moves better in everything you do.

TOWER/CADILLAC

The Tower is a vertical frame with springs and bars that transforms your Mat work—adding support, resistance, and challenge exactly where you need it.

These sessions take only six people, making the classes feel very personalised, allowing time for discussion and demonstration where necessary. You'll work standing, sitting, and lying down, using the springs to build strength, improve flexibility, and develop control through your entire body.

With the ability to isolate almost every muscle group, the Tower is an excellent tool for breaking down movements and correcting inefficient patterns. These classes are wonderful in terms of self-discovery and confidence; you will be amazed at what your body can do.

JOE’S GYM

Joe's Gym classes are the closest thing to how Joseph Pilates originally taught—personalised, equipment-based, and guided rather than choreographed.

You'll move through the classical Pilates apparatus with the support of an experienced teacher who tailors the session to your body, ability and needs on the day. Rather than everyone doing the same exercises at the same time, you'll develop your own practice—building strength, control and confidence through the full system.

These classes are ideal if you want a more individual, studio-style experience, with expert guidance and access to the full depth of Pilates as it was intended.
