Mat Pilates: The Method That Started It All

As March Matness draws to a close, we’ve loved seeing social media light up with snippets of the original 34 Mat exercises—each one a little window into the brilliance of Joseph Pilates’ method. But beyond the Instagram moments, March Matness is a reminder of something deeper: Mat isn’t a ‘lite’ version of Pilates. It’s the heart of the method.

Just you, the mat—and maybe a prop or two to help you find your way.

In our studio, we teach Mat Pilates as it was intended—connected to the full system, rooted in precision, and adaptable to every body. We do use props, but not as shortcuts. A Magic Circle or a block isn’t there to make it easier—it’s there to help you feel what you might be missing. To help your body make the connections it’s still searching for.

Whether you’re an athlete looking to deepen your core control or managing long-term health conditions, Mat gives you the tools to take ownership of your body, one rep at a time.

Why do we love teaching Mat?

Because it strips everything back to what matters. You can’t hide in the Mat work. And we wouldn’t want you to. Mat Pilates teaches you to rely on your own strength, your own breath, your own focus. It’s where you learn to trust your body—and where the transformation begins.

You’ll discover muscles you didn’t know you had. You’ll build strength, stamina, and deep, intelligent movement. And you’ll take that strength with you into your day-to-day life.

What happens now that March is over?

We keep going. We keep showing up to the mat, whether it’s March or not. Our weekly Mat classes are a space to reconnect—to your breath, your strength, your body, and your community. And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines all month, there’s no better time to start.

Because the mat is where the Pilates method begins—and where your transformation begins, too.
